African-American civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr used tactics of nonviolence and civil disobedience based on his Christian beliefs and nonviolent activism to lead the African-American civil rights movement, in delivering his "I Have A Dream" speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. on August 28th, 1963, in front of 250,000 civil rights supporters. This was during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, which he calls for an end to racism in the United States, and called for civil and economic rights. His "I Have A Dream" speech is still an inspirational to generations around the world in all different backgrounds, as it was a defining moment of the African-American civil rights movement. This led to Martin Luther King winning the 1964 #NobelPeacePrize for his leadership and philosophy role in the movement. Despite what's currently going on in our modern day society involving #racism, if it wasn't for Martin Luther King Jr's "I Have A Dream" speech, we would still be living in the harsh times of Jim Crow laws via racial #segregation and #discrimination laws. The march is credited with helping to pass the #CivilRightsAct of 1964, and preceded the Selma Voting Rights Movement which led to the passage of the #VotingRightsAct of 1965. The moral message behind the "I Have A Dream" speech is as long as you believe, trust and have faith in God in leaving everything in his hands, you're never too young or too old to have a dream that God gives to you for a purpose and a reason, in breaking down barriers, proving the impossible is possible, and you can do anything that you can set your mind to do; no matter your circumstances, your sexual orientation, the color of your skin, or your gender. #Repost @conscious_couture Loved this clip of our two brothers coming together to talk their differences out in private without feeling obligated to tell people the full details of their discussion. This is how we can settle our differences when two people are committed to the same cause, but have different opinions on how to achieve it. R.I.P. to two of the greatest. #muhammadali #martinlutherkingjr #blackexcellence #blacksuccess #blackculture #black #blackisbeautiful #blackhistory #blackhistoryyear #success #blackowned #blackpride #blacklove #blackpeople #blackbusiness #supportblackbusiness #blackempowerment #blackunity #africanamericancivilrights #blackandproud #blackowned #blackhistoryfacts #blackhistory365 #civilrights #black #africanamericanhistory #blackhistorymonth #africanamericans #motivation #nevergiveup #inspiration

This is the only known photo of African-American civil rights activists Martin Luther King Jr and Malcolm X meeting in person for the first time at Capitol Hill on March 26th, 1964 where the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was being debated. Thinking about this photo reminds me of how the X-Men comic book character Professor Charles Xavier with his dream of peacefully uniting humans and mutants are compared to civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr, who used tactics of nonviolence and civil disobedience based on his Christian beliefs and nonviolent activism to lead the African-American civil rights movement. Thinking about this photo reminds me of how the X-Men comic book character Magneto with his aggressive approach against humans in fighting for the respect of mutants are compared to the more militant Malcolm X, who was admired for speaking courageously about the rights of blacks in the United States and crimes against black Americans done by white America, despite of being accused of preaching racism and violence. Did you know the X-Men protagonist Professor Charles Xavier was inspired by Martin Luther King Jr, his involment with the American civil rights struggle and his "I Have A Dream Speech"? Did you know the X-Men antagonist Magneto was inspired by Malcolm X, with his line "By Any Means Necessary"? This 1964 photo is haunting, as these two African-American civil rights icons will never meet again before their untimely deaths. Salute to Martin Luther King Jr and Malcolm X for breaking down racial barriers, proving the impossible is possible, and you can do anything that you can set your mind to do, no matter what the color of your skin is. Throwback 2018 moment: Two years ago, this was the most powerful and inspirational artwork that I've seen, especially after the offensive and disrespectful remarks that the U.S. President said about Haiti and African nations around that time. Dubbed as "My Brother's Keeper" to honor Martin Luther King's birthday, this artwork was done by talented Haitian-American artist Watson Mere who lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. If Martin Luther King Jr was still alive today, he wouldn't be afraid to stand in front of President Donald Trump and speak out against him. #martinlutherkingjr #blacklivesmatter #donaldtrump #AntiTrump #NAACP #inspiration #artwork #artofmere #haitianartist #watsonmere #blackhistorymonth #blackartwork #blackexcellence #africanamericanart #africa #haiti #unitedstates #african #haitian #arts #media #culture #blackamerica #politics #africanamerican #haitianamerican #mybrotherskeeper #MLKDay #ripmartinlutherkingjr #africanamericancivilrights
