I think I’m doing it wrong .......... •
This was said to me a handful of times in the last two yin classes I taught.
You can not possibly get yin wrong .
It’s not a practice of alignment, aesthetics or any thing remotely visual.
It’s a practice of feeling .
I ask students to close their eyes so the sense sight is taken away so they can FEEL their way into a posture.
You posture your body a certain way , that you FEEL a certain level of sensation. This acts as an acupressure point in the body to work on certain meridians to stimulate Qi flow ( the flow of prana ~ energy)
Different postures will work to stimulate different meridian lines .. The theory is similar to the use of needles in acupuncture. You and your shape is the needle, so to speak .
So let’s talk sensation, you’re seeking your 7 on a scale of 1-10.
1 being ‘oh this is cosy ‘.
10 being ‘lucifer, is that you?’ 😂😂 We were recently working the outer hips and the gall bladder meridian . I asked my student if she could feel the sensation in the outer hip and she told me ‘ it feels like my glute is about to burst through my skin’ 😂🤣🤣 NOW we’re sucking diesel I thought.... or I whispered.
There is work here , both for me as a facilitator and on the students part . Asking the question, is this my 7, is this discomfort? Or is this pain?
We have ways to measure this and obviously we don’t want any glutes flying out of your skin suits 😂😂😂😂
This student was just at her edge , a place I’d encourage everyone to dabble with . ⚡️There’s a LOT to be learned In discomfort.⚡️ Plus , your fascia, connective tissue, tendons, bones and meridian lines love it!!! Eventually, the mind will begin to settle , this is where the magic lies .
After all the opening sentences of one of the most sacred yogic texts ‘Patanjali’s yoga Sutras ‘ ;
And now the practice of yoga begins.
Yoga is the settling of the fluctuations of the mind’. •
