Whooping Crane photographed on April 2nd 2020 in Southeastern Wisconsin.
The whooping crane is the tallest North American bird standing at roughly 5 feet in stature. It is an endangered species named for its whooping sound. Along with the Sandhill Crane, it is one of only two crane species found in North America. The whooping crane's lifespan is estimated to be 22 to 24 years in the wild. Although its status is listed as Endangered its population is slowly increasing. I have had the pleasure of seeing three of these magnificent cranes so far this season. Photographed while practicing extreme social distancing.
